Making people and ideas findable

I read in the Indy Star the other day that the IMA has started a new website called ArtBabble.org.
I checked out the website and was thrilled with what I saw. There's video about artists, galleries, video art, etc., etc.

Why do you think it is that there are no television stations dedicated solely to the arts?
Wouldn't you think there would be a huge following?
You could visit galleries, museums, artist's studios, and that's just a start, there's theater, music, and dance too. I think that if more people were informed about creativity and expression our world might become less violent.

James - it is a great site, isn't it! I know a few of the people who helped pull the site together and they are equally amazing. Your comment on no tv station devotion to the arts is why I support public radio and public television. They are the only ones doing it that I know of, and lots of their shows capture the heart and essence of the work and people behind the arts.

I support PBS as well, and you're right they do cover a lot of ground in the arts, but if that wasn't there where would you find any television about the arts...CBS's Sunday Morning usually has great stuff. I just think it's sad that so much money and emphasis is put on sports in our culture. Don't get me wrong I love sports, but our society isn't balanced. It's all about being on top, who gets there faster, compete, compete! Competition is good, but I think if more people thought creatively and overcame their fears to do what they can to express themselves there might be less unemployment, less killing, and perhaps more love in this world. I know this sounds very idealistic. I think that a program or network about the arts would have a huge following. If the people want it, I would think that advertisers would jump all over it.
