Making people and ideas findable

A truly spectacular musical artist died yesterday. Michael Jackson is a part of all of us. From his earliest days as a kid singing "ABC" with his brothers, and throughout his long and accomplished career, Michael and his music have penetrated into some of our happiest memories and into deep personal and private parts of our lives. His music is like a familiar scent, when you hear it it can trigger memories. So which song or songs will you remember most? And what memories does his music trigger for you?

Innovator absolutely; entertainer without question

I think Michael Jackson’s life ended as sadly as it’s been over the past 5 to 10 years. He seemed a classic example of someone not comfortable in their own skin however with the great misfortune of having enough money to buy any doctor willing to make a buck to change his figure to a more pleasing ‘Man in the Mirror”.

I’ll remember the friendships of those years when MJ was all over the radio waves and disco was king….

Great in the 80s... Today: Time to move on...

I remember my sister getting Thriller and being slightly scared by the video, but soooo intrigued. Even though I was pretty young when it came out, I especially love the album Off the Wall. "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock with You", in particular.

I have two more great memories of MJ. The first: on the drive back to Bloomington after a weekend trip to Chicago with my college roommate, we sang (at the top of our lungs with the windows down) "Back to Indiana" by the Jackson 5 as we crossed the state line. The second: the day of MJ's death, my husband and I sang our own MJ medley. We couldn't help it. One of us would be like "Ooo, what about PYT?" and then we'd start singing it. Then one of us would start in with the "Annie are you OK, are you OK, are you OK Annie." It was just so spontaneous and right.

What a talented individual...and from Indiana!

I've got to go with "weird" as well. However, I also feel that he was an incredible talent.

I can't imagine having to deal with all the pressures he had throughout his life, the media stalking him and probably a very abnormal childhood as well.

Still, the fascination with little boys, the plastic surgery and all the other the other "freaky" things are just plain "weird."

This is a little late, but you know what I like Michael Jackson, and although he was weird at times I will always remember him because of Thriller. I think that was a right of passage! To this day it was beyond its years, I mean come on, what is more scary than zombies? Nothing I can think of, that's for sure!

You know since Jackson has passed I have really been thinking about learning the Thriller dance...
