Making people and ideas findable

It has been an interesting couple of years running my company, Brandswag. We have experienced the 70 to 90 hour weeks of constant hard work and it has been awesome! Now, I am beginning to find that I have become a work-aholic. I work constantly... all the time. I will even work when we do not have anything to do (there is always time for content and promotion right?).

What have you done to keep yourself from sliding over the edge? I love what I do but there comes a time when you can work too much. I would love some tips or thoughts on how to either combat this or help with taking 90 hours a week to more like 70.

Anyone?

I am anxious to read the responses to this, Kyle. I'm in the same boat...

I think a lot of the problem we all have is trying to do to much ourselves. There comes a point where you have more money than time, and trading a little money to get your life back is worth it.

Very, very true...

Take up a hobby like I did. I am starting a new business.

I have my family to keep me grounded. I know that I only have so much time in the day to spend with them, so I make sure I don't work in the evening, because that's the only time I have to spend with them. At night, I'll noodle around on the computer, write articles, and do some SEO stuff that I can do in front of the TV.

The only tip I can give you is to draw a line in the sand and say, "I will not work during this time." Pick a block of time EACH DAY where you don't work, don't answer your phone (you've got voice mail), don't look at emails, don't even think of ideas about work. Start out with 60 minutes per day. Watch TV, go for a walk, go out to lunch with a friend. But no work allowed.

You can do what I did. Got married, had 5 kids, 2 dogs, a goldfish, and a hermit crab.

Those hermit crabs can really be a time sink. Don't know how you can manage that AND a goldfish.

And then to you go off to work to get away from the kids, the dogs, goldfish and hermit crab?

I truly wrestle with this myself, Kyle. Am I a work-aholic or have I simply found work that I love? Seeing how I haven't been on a date in years, I admit that it could be a problem. I often wonder how my work life would be different IF I were actively seeing someone.

But then I stop wondering and I get back to work.

What's worse, as far as finding time outside of work, is if you work with the one that you are dating...
