Making people and ideas findable

Democrats, Republicans and Libertarians sound off on health care

Yesterday we conducted a survey of the SI community. We asked 7 open questions which were taken from President Elect Obama's town hall forum. These were not multiple choice questions. They were open ended, unaided questions requiring thoughtful, long form answers - and over 160 Smoosiers took the time to share their feelings. This is awesome!

The raw results of the survey are attached to this forum thread, so anyone curious can sort through the answers looking for insights based on political perspectives, or demographics.

Why did we ask about voting records?

Along with these questions we asked Smoosiers to indicate who got their votes for President. We are not trained researchers, and this is not scientific, but we thought it might be useful to see first of all who would participate. Happily, the GOP showed up along with Dems and Libertarians.

We also asked a few demographic questions just to help put answers into perspective. Here is a quick peek at the demos:

80% were between the ages of 25-54.
51% male, 49% female
42% Employed, 4% unemployed
29% Self employed, 20% business owners (with employees), 1 student

Once again we are amazed and delighted by the Smaller Indiana's willingness to share their opinions. This was not a simple survey to complete...thank you all for making time to share your feelings. The results are, in effect, a recording of a "virtual town hall" meeting.

We will be forwarding these data to Washington in hopes that our voices will be heard. Anyone out there have any special connections to help our survey reach people who will actually read it?? Please let me know.

Pat - Is it me or is the results spreadsheet missing?

This is great! I'd love to look at the data but the only attachment link I can find is the one to the pie chart .jpg, not the .xls workbook.

I agree with the above commenters. Where are the "results?"

Reply to This

The pie chart is great, but I was looking for the spreadsheet too. What happen?

Sorry guys. I had attached the wrong file...the data is up now

The spreadsheet seems to only represent females??? Is there another with male stats?

Reply to This

Oops. I had it sorted by females when I save it. If you click on the arrow at the top of the gender column and select "All" from the list, you should see everything.

Meanwhile, I've reloaded the file with that filter off...so you can get the men that way too.

Pat, will you be sending your results to the Obama transition team, via change.gov?
