Making people and ideas findable

The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) recently announced that Hoosier artists have until February 2, 2009 to submit applications for the IAC's Individual Artist Program (IAP) grant.

Individual artists living and working in Indiana may apply for up to $2,000 from the IAP grant. The grants are intended to assist artists with specific project-related costs that will help them further their career and provide significant public benefit through the completed project.

Eligible projects may be in the areas of: crafts, dance, design art, folk art, literature, media arts, multi-arts, music, photography, theater, and visual arts.

I applied this past year and got enough money to purchase a new laptop to help me write a book. If you plan on applying, start writing the grant now. One hint for any arts grant writers (not just this one, but ALL arts grants): if you're the artsy-fartsy type, don't write an artsy-fartsy grant. Write in a more professional business tone.

Thanks, Erik. I was going to call you out as a grantee, but I'm glad you did it yourself! The process does take time, but hey, it's free money...

Not to mention validation from your peers, the support of your state agency and legislators, and perhaps a little motivation to map out the vision of whatever art project on which you may be working.
