Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

Hello! My wife, daughter and I are relocating to Dubois County IN (Jasper, Huntingburg, Ferdinand) at year end. Dubois County is just under an hour northeast of Evansville in case you were wondering.

I need some help if any of you can. Here's my laundry list:
1) Any information about the community (I do have a Realtor)
2) Any connections for after school care for an elementary student
3) Churches - looking for a good Protesant church. we are conservative although not limited to a denomination.
4) Doctors, Dentists, Eye, CPA, etc.
5) Employment opportunities. I have a Masters in Engineering and experience as a Project Manager and Facility Manager. I'm trying to NOT just use Career Builder and job boards. I'm currently not working by choice, for a month or so, to prepare 2 houses to sell/rent. Much to do with an 80 and 103 year old house to sell.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Tim Coomer

I normally don't get on here very often in the evenings, but was going to post something and saw Dubois County on here. I was so excited!! I don't ever see anyone on here from down in Southern Indiana!! Well I live in St. Meinrad, but grew up in Huntingburg and know the exact area you are speaking of!

1. google.. jasper, indiana -- I'll find you a good site.
2. There are many in Jasper and very few in Ferdinand. I know there is a daycare in Huntingburg. Most families have friend or someone they know watch the kids. I have found it is very hard to find care for smaller children.
3. If you like small country churches in a small community Holland would be the town to look for a church. St. Paul UCC and Augustana UCC are there, and also a methodist church. There is also a nice one in huntingburg. http://www.ucc.org/find/?radius=25&zip=47541 - Try this link
4. http://www.mhhcc.org - Memorial Hospital you can find most there. It depends on what town you live in.
5. You will find most of the jobs in your area in Jasper.

http://www.ofs.com
http://www.spencerindustries.com - We do not have any job openings, but it can never hurt to put in a resume

I hope this helps...

Thanks so much Melissa. I appreciate the info. My wife is 'set' on Huntingburg, so that's where we will be :) it's a pretty easy drive to Jasper from Hburg. If you think of additional info OR know of others that could provide info, then I would appreciate it. Peace, Tim Coomer

Wow, great watching the power of Smaller Indiana at work. Melissa and Timothy, I recommend you two sit down over coffee down in Jasper (there's a coffee shop on the north end of town that I visited when I was in the area this summer). Get to know each other, and see if you can be a resource for each other.

I really love that area...Just north of dubois county is daviess county there are as many amish there as in Shipshewana. Tons of hiking, and lakes, and parks. Crane navel center is right there in daviess county and they are opening or will be opening a tech center there. The I-69 interstate will end up going from evansville to crane....they are building north from evansville to crane. I grew up in haubstadt, IN which is in gibson county which is southwest of dubois county. Topographically the hills of southern Indiana are present in the east of the county and then you come out into flatter ground towards the west.

Contact Charles Selby with the visitors bureau in daviess county...he is a super helpful guy...http://www.daviesscounty.net/ Or contact kristen ruhe at www.visitduboiscounty.com

good luck

Thanks so for the information. I knew I-69 was coming but didn't know when. I went to college in Evansville so I kinda know the area. I appreciate the contact with Charles and that Crane will have a Tech Center. Peace! Tim
