Making people and ideas findable

There was a lot of chirping on SI this week about Twitter and the Clean:Water Twestival; but we haven't heard about it...did anyone out there connect with fellow Twits this week? If so, we'd love to hear details..and how did the Clean Water program work out? Please share your news here

A small poll I conducted within my network - not indicative of general population.

I'm happy to not be a part of a general population. I'm proud to be a trailblazer.

Facebookers, check this group out: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=46371562809&ref=ts

From what I know, there were at least 17 Tweeple at Hubbard & Cravens in Broad Ripple in the morning, 4 at the Bean Cup in Greenwood, I had 5 at the Indianapolis International Airport in the evening, and there were other Tweetups around the city and state.

Tweeps, post your updates!

Sorry didn't mean to use the word "general population" as a pejorative. I just made an observation that folks that talk or love a particular service are just trapped in their own echo chamber and typically overestimate the reach. There are over 4250 Smoosiers but less than 300 Twitterers (sp). Twitter still has a long way to go before it replaces email as the dominant form of communication or fund raising for that matter. I am looking forward to the final numbers and hope they break it down along Tipjoy/Paypal/Offline donations to give a true indication of the fund raising capability of Twitter.

I agree! I think it does have a long way to go, but it is definitely fun watching it get there! Do you Tweet? If so, what's your name? I am @nickilaycoax

I attended the Twestival event in Rochester, NY. I was there to give a keynote address on Social Media for their local business journal's "2009 Best of the Web" awards. http://rochester.twestival.com/

The attendance looked to be between 40 and 50 folks, not counting the sponsors and volunteers. They had two bands, a 50/50 drawing to raise cash, and a Chinese auction.

They raised a little over $1,600. I'd say that was pretty good, considering it came together in about 3 weeks.

I am writing up a case study (of a sort) that I planned to post on the #twindy09 website (I planned to forward it directly to you, Pat).

There were 22 at H&C total -- some of us were having so much fun, we didn't leave until 11:30 and then drove directly to the 2nd event at Scotty's Brewhouse. My best guess would be an additional 10 new tweeters were there. I'm waiting on the final count from Justine... er um... Justin Bryant <== Inside joke.

Like Rochester NY we had between 40-50 people all together, but we had NO sponsors (except for Stark ReAlity, Nicki Laycoax and Smaller Indiana). We had no bands or additional volunteers, and I put it together in only ONE week.

Since this was an AWARENESS raising event (not a fundraising event) the metrics will be challenging to quantify, but I can say without equivocation that it was an amazing success. The tweeters who attended the event never knew about Charity:Water before the twestival. When you add all the Smoosiers who watched the video posted on SI, and all the #Indiana tweeters who sent me their condolences because they were out of town (Kyle Lacy) -- this AWARENESS raising event surpassed expectations.

Several people asked me if this would be a monthly event, so the next one is scheduled for March 17th. I am nailing down the particulars for the-- Rolling St Patty's Day TweetUp to raise awareness about ALL THINGS GREEN. Kevin Hill already said he would be the anchor tweeter at the Claddaugh on 96th St. More on that tweetUp next week.

I was there. The response was pretty amazing. I think a lot of the attendance has to do with –– besides Amy's amazing ability to put this all together in just 7 days –– the relationships that many of us have created here on Smaller Indiana. When I showed up to the Hubbard & Cravens Twestival, I did not know three of the people there. The other 14 or 15, I had met more than once before, and several of them have become mainstays in my networking life.

When we all showed up to the Social Networking lunch that Justin had organized, I think he was a little surprised at the number of people. There were, again, at least 15 of us. Several new faces, a couple people who had never even heard of Twitter (I helped one woman set up an account right there on the spot), and a number of us who had been at H&C just a few minutes before.

We had been asking each other about it –– "You going to Scotty's? Hey, let's go to Scotty's" –– and then we tweeted about it constantly, and got a couple new people to show up who had only been following the H&C conversation.

Hey Erik,
There is a grassroots effort among the Indy TweetUp community to have you dress up as a Leprechaun for the " Rolling St. Patty's Day Tweet Up to raise awareness of All Things Green." I think it is a fabulous idea. =)
