Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

I recently returned to Indianapolis to settle down and comlpete my masters degree. I have work experience with Macy's West Inc. in buying and group sales management in a flagship store in Califorina. Since my time with Macy's West in San Francisco, I have worked with University of Phoenix as a counselor both in Saint Louis and now in Indianapolis. I complete my Masters in Business Adminsitration with a specialtion in Healthcare Managment degree this year and I am currently seeking opportunties here in Indianapolis. Any suggested plan of action or specfic contacts that MBA cannidates should consider contacting to being a new career search here in Indianapolis?

Hi Thomas,

There are a lot of places around here looking for MBA candidates. Try Indeed as a job search site. They pull job postings from all kinds of job sites, not just CareerBuilder or Monster. Put MBA in the search terms, and it will pull up only those where they want an MBA.

Erik,

Thank you for referencing Indeed. As a college counselor I am also seeking more resource for my students and it turns out Indeed can help me narrow my strategic networking approach as suggested by Lou. Thanks for taking the time to respond and I must say I am very impressed by your activity on this site. Thank you for your contributions.

Thomas,

As a recent MBA graduate and fellow job seeker myself, I can tell you there is no magic bullet to finding that ideal job. Job boards like Indeed are great for finding out what is available but your work shouldn't stop there. You should leverage your network to find out more on available jobs, who is hiring, and contacts within those companies. The best advice I can give you when networking is be specific in what you are looking for - people can't help you unless they know what you want. Keep in mind, it is your job as an MBA graduate to convince companies why they should hire you, not the other way around. This means doing your homework on the company, position of interest, and most importantly on what you bring to the table.

The best course of action I can recommend is get out and meet people. I strongly recommend the Business and Professional Exchange (a networking group for job seekers) http://www.bpeindy.org/. The North Side chapter meets every Monday at 7am at the St. Luke's Church on 86th just west of Meridian.

I wish you luck in your search and if you have any further questions, send me a message on here.

Lou
