Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

Hello!

My name is Rachel Nix and I am a graduate of the Ball State Telecommunications Multimedia Program. I aspire to be a rockstar web designer working in the entertainment industry incorporating my love of the internet and design with my passion for indie rock music and am currently looking for my first full-time design job.

I've worked for television and radio for most of college in web and have done several internships in the industry. I've been a Manager at WCRD, Ball State's student-run radio station, for 2 years working as Web Manager and Music Director as well as the occasional DJ shift. I work as Multimedia Director for Cardinal Vision 57, BSU's student-run TV station as well.

On top of all this I've done several internships to grow as a designer. The first was at a commercial radio station in Northern Indiana. Next, I traveled all the way to New York City to work as a Digital Production Intern for VH1 Digital. And now, I work as a Design and Maintenance Intern at SpinWeb Internet Media in Muncie, Indiana.

If you'd like to hear more about anything I've done, I'd love to talk to you. Also, check out my portfolio blog and LinkedIn profile.

I would most like to learn about positions in southern Indiana near Louisville.
Thanks!
Rachel

Congratulations on graduating from such a fine institution. Be sure to join the Ball State alumni group when you have a chance, if you haven't already.

There are a few companies around that would be worth approaching. MediaFuel, MediaSauce, BitWise Solutions, Rare Bird, and Omega Designs to name a few. Approach each of the individually, and ask for an informational interview. Find out what it takes to break into this market here in Indianapolis. Ask for names of other companies of people who are a) worth talking to, and/or b) hiring. (It's important that you ask for those names). I've known other people who took this approach, and usually find their jobs this way.

Finally, send an email to Evan Finch at Young and Laramore -- efinch at yandl dot com -- and he'll send your resume and links to all the people on his email network. He posts job openings and people who are searching to his list as soon as he receives them.

Good luck.

Galvin Creative is growing like crazy and may be hiring. Gary Galvin is one of the first participants in SI, so I reccomend you call hi and mention the SI link.

Good Luck!
