Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

According to our Smaller Indiana Poll, if the elections were held today, Smaller Indiana would put a Democrat in the White House and a Republican in the Governor's Mansion. Does this make sense to you?

(And yes, we left the Libertarian candidates off our ballot. Sorry. Nothing personal). Those candidates are President (VP):
Bob Barr (Wayne A. Root)
Governor: Andrew Horning

It is hard to find any fault with Mitch Daniels. He has brought Indiana from the 19th century to the 21st century with DST, leasing the toll road for immediate $$$ and made numerous overseas trips to bring corporations to Indiana for Indiana jobs. On the other hand, some are still waiting to see what kind of candidate Mrs. Palin will make. She is the wild card. Take another poll on November 1st. The results MIGHT be a little different.

I just watched her speech...you may be right.

I am a Mitch fan, for my money it doesnt get much better. I celebrate his whole collection! As far as the presidential story...it was really interesting listening to Palin speak. I think she will definitely make the race more competitive.

It would be interesting to see results after tonight's speeches, and after a few days of positive media and public buzz that will serve to increase numbers in the polls. At that point, it might be interesting to see how everyone fairs. The success of the speeches tonight might (I said might) make a difference, just as there was a bump right after Barack Obama's speech last week. Post-convention bumps in ratings are typical, so we will see some back and forth for a while.

This is a good reading for the governors race. The presidents race and/or poll numbers should be taken seriously in October. My conclusion is because we have not had debates yet and/or that October suprise.

On a SI note, doing this poll will garner some media attention locally since you are building a pretty good base of a variety of people on here. Glad I can be a part of it.

I'm heading to the Hob Nob tonight...hoping to meet the candidtes personally an introduce SI...if we end up getting some media attention, well, that would be nice :-)

I'll be there as well...I keep an eye out for you.

HobNob is a great event, sponsored by the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. I've attended most of the past several years, and think it is a top notch, expertly organized event where one can see, meet and listen to the candidatesin the upcoming elections. It's a great networking event as well, so I would encourage all of you to attend. I have to miss it this year as I'm out of town, but look forward to hearing all about it.

I will also be at HobNob. I have never attended before so I am looking forward to it.

The race for Governor is intriguing to me. I didn't like some of the decisions Mr. Daniels made early in his term, but I cannot really argue with his effort on increasing Indiana's economic future and relevance. I'd like to see him make greater strides for northern Indiana and in the area of education, but I'm willing to give him a 2nd term to work on these things.
The Presidential race is much more complicated, in my mind. Mrs. Palin's speech was what the Republican party wanted to hear. She is certainly one who doesn't throw her punches. I can respect that. I've yet to be convinced that the McCain/Palin OR Obama/Biden tickets will meet the needs that this country has. At this point, the question to ask is which ticket is the lesser of two evils.
I'm really excited at the prospect of SI getting in front of all of the local/state candidates to show them that we are an important measuring stick for their campaigns that can't be ignored.

Brian, I definitely agree with you about education in Northern (specifically northwest) Indiana. I would really like to see what can be done to improve the quality of life especially education. I also agree both presidential parties leave things to be desired. I've been listening to the campaigns, then the rants of the fanatics of both sides of the spectrum and I've concluded both sides are missing vital pieces of what I think we need for this country, or at least to represent what I would like to see. With that said, I may be leaning a certain way, but there is still a LOT to be determined....
