Making people and ideas findable

I've recently added an additional revenue stream, no its not a millionaire over night program, but like we all know, any more money, is good money. I'm a ChaCha expeditor, what that means is that this nifty service that allows people to text a question to 242242 with their cell and get a answer from a real person.

The 'Guides' aka searchers make .10 a answer, the 'Top Guides' make .20 a search, and to be a top guide you do over 200 a week with a 95 accuracy.

I am an 'Expeditor', I look at the questions, put them in the correct category and check for formatting and spelling, alot less work, for only .03 a question, soon to be .02.

Its pretty simple and if you have time during your day, or while boobing it in frot of the tube you can bring in a little extra income, and like I said, we all know that can't hurt.

I think Chacha has a great thing going. I've used their service (which recently switched from being web-based to strictly cell-phone based) and I've been impressed. I typically use GOOG-411 when I'm looking for a phone number or address, but when I want a question that can't be easily answered via 411 call or a text to Google, Chacha is my go-to. I've asked questions as banal as the weather to detailed questions about how to transfer my iTunes library from one hard drive to another without losing my playlists, and have always received great answers, even if it takes a couple minutes to receive them.

I think chacha's move from web to text was brilliant, as it looks like competing with Google is an exercise in futility, but they can definitely corner a market in human-assisted text search. The only thing that could undermine this is the increasing availability and use of smartphones like the blackberry and iphone which enable users to browse the web on their mobile device. But for those of us with just a traditional cell phone, the text searches are invaluable!
