The Broadway musical that won the most Tony Awards EVER, The Producers, is currently running at Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre (NW Side of Indy). In spite of rave reviews from the local press, The Producers isn't selling as well as the previous show, Smoke on the Mountain, which has never been on Broadway.

Smoke.. is light on plot but filled with incredible Blue-Grass Gospel music, and could be characterized as "squeaky clean." It performed to sold out houses, and the run was extended to keep up with demand. I just don't get it.

Mel Brooks is an acquired taste I suppose, but sometimes I get the feeling that Hoosiers don't have a sense of humor.

I blogged last week about Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre celebrating Smaller Indiana by offering its members half price tickets (September 4th, doors open at 6:00pm, Buffet is served until 7:30 and the show begins at 8:00), but only a few--if any-- have responded.

Bravo... I love History of the World Part I... Silent Movie is farther down the list of favorites. Young Frankenstein is my favorite. Another Mel Brooks classic that is making noise on the Great White Way.

After I went with you guys, still singing "Springtime for Hitler" I rented the DVD of the Lane/Broderick version and I have to say, I thought B&B actually had a tighter, funnier production. I agree with Lou Harry, that Lane was a much more cynical, devious Bialystock; Doug was much sweeter. Both were great, but different interpretations of the character. But Eddie Curry's Bloom was easily better than Matthew Broderick's. He just breathed life into the role; the neuroses were palpable and the hysteria was hysterical.

I wholeheartedly agree... Eddie kicks ass as Bloom. I was unimpressed with Broderick and the whole movie, actually.

Over the past 20 years, I've seen Eddie perform everything from Mortimer in Camelot, to Bob Cratchet in A Christmas Carol, and I think it's the best work he's ever done.
